REBUTTALS!

1) It lets you voice out your ideas and opinions. >>You don't have to debate in order for you to voice out your ideas and opinions. In the first place, you will just waste your time and your voice; it might just lead to sore throat and hoarseness of voice since you will have to argue. Talking to someone informally can be already an outlet in expressing your thoughts. You can always express your thoughts even without arguing.

2)
It builds up self-confidence. >>
It does not build self-confidence at all, it will even develop self-doubt. Why? Like Hello? You listen to your opponent's ideas and rebuttals which would lead you to doubt your stand because you will try to comprehend if you said the right thing or not.

3)
It improves speaking skills & grammar. >>
Debate is not the only way in developing skills and grammar. You could do it by merely writing or reading alone. Besides, with all the pressure, gush of emotions, mental block, and stammering, how would you expect to to deliver the right words and improve your speaking skills and grammar?

4)
It enables you to see different points of view, thus, helps you think outside the box.
>>It does not coincide at all because the different points of view are just taken from other people's ideas Instead of thinking outside the box, closed mindedness can be an initial cause of it.

5)
It helps you think critically & improves your reasoning skills. >>
It does not help you think critically. Why is it so? it is because you get the ideas from articles and writings that you have read which would make you think at all. You would just depend on these materials, thus, impeding critical thinking. Your reasoning skills would not be improved too because you would verbalize the arguments that you initially read.

6)
It enhances teamwork within the group.>>
It does not enhance teamwork because obviously, you speak alone in front and not as a group. It is just a title that you are a team but if you see the real picture, you tend to be divided since you individualize your tasks which does not create team work at all. Besides, you want to win as the 'best speaker' huh? that would not include your team mates! Got nothing more to say.

7)
It creates awareness of current local, national, & international news. >>Why would you waste your time debating since there is already the presence of media? And to think you would not have to panic anymore. You can just sit down and relax, just switch on the television, no sweat! In fact, it is more reliable than listening to debater's personal views which would only confuse you.
